How the Contingent Workforce Is Reshaping the Workplace
—SIA Staffing Stream

As we begin another year and set our sights on the future, we can expect to see more evolutionary changes in the workplace brought about by the growing influence of the contingent workforce. While experts differ on penetration rates, it is clear that the contingent workforce is growing in both size and influence, beyond the ability of employers to either ignore or marginalize this increasingly important contributor to organizational performance and the achievement of growth goals. Julie Andersen
Branch Leader
Lab Support Phoenix

Julie originally started working for Lab Support as a recent college graduate (BS in Biotechnology) in 1992 when she was placed in a contract-to-hire position in a lab at a start-up biopharmaceutical company. After working three years there, Julie was hired as an Account Manager at Lab Support’s Minneapolis branch, two years later she transferred to our Houston branch, and four years after that, to Phoenix – her mission to leave the cold weather behind was accomplished.

In her current role, Julie focuses on client relationship development, networking, and growing market diversity. As Branch Leader, she’s also involved in mentoring colleagues at her office. Julie keeps connected in the scientific community by attending IFT (Institute of Food Technologists) and AZBio (Arizona Bioindustry Association) meetings several times per year.

Julie loves to open a door for an eager scientist and see them take off in their career. It’s very rewarding for her to see people excel. Over the years, there have been several people who she’s placed as Lab Technicians who are now Lab Supervisors and Lab Managers. She’s honored when they come to her with staffing needs as hiring managers.

For Julie, success at Lab Support is all about doing the right thing and building long-term relationships. By maintaining strong relationships with both clients and candidates, she’s able to make the right match whenever and wherever a need arises.

Throughout her career at Lab Support with the various moves and changes, Julie is grateful that she’s had a wonderful husband who has supported her. They have a son and daughter, and enjoy spending time as a family taking road trips to California, hiking in the local mountains, and supporting the kids’ sporting events. Julie has also been a distance runner for many years.
